if your store carries trade paperbacks, I offer up the following from DC:
Sword of Sorcery (which has some awesome female leads in it) and any of the He-Man runs (there's a micro-run of six issues to get your feet wet before it launches into the series proper which gives us She-Ra, which does another little microrun where He-Man and friends takes on Superman/Batman et al of the DCU but there is plot stuff taking place so definitely read that, and then we end with the Eternity War where He-Man takes on Hordak!) It is epic and the last issue of the Eternity War is awesome. I do offer up a warning, three main heroic characters do die and one turns out to be a villain (I can't remember if they touched on him again)
