it's terrifying tbh because it strikes me as a pretty essential element of human existence to be thinking creatively to some extent-- even if it's as simple as decorating your home in an interesting way, or imagining how a movie you just saw would be better, or turning an interesting dream you had into a coherent plotline that you might like to read yourself (even if you never plan on writing it). I find it difficult to imagine an existence where your only thoughts are limited to things around you or actively happening to you at that moment. I know some family members and friends who say they think this way but I find it almost impossible to conceptualize it-- surely there must be something imaginative going on at times.

I think stories are essential to human existence but not in the sense you seem to.
I just don't think imaginatively about people and plotlines because that's not the kind of person I am. People who know me describe me as creative. I cook without recipes, I decorate my home in interesting ways.

I think my Aspergers traits and difficulty with interpersonal relationships might have something to do with this. But I also know many amazing people who don't spend their free time daydreaming about stories. I don't think it's as important as you seem to think it is.

It is OK for something to be essential to you and irrelevant to someone else. All of us are different. Don't let that terrify you. It leads bad places.
