I wouldn't do that, but I will chip in that few things make me facepalm more than when large swaths of a fandom will be squeeing over fic that is patently OOC as all hell. Usually, in my experience, because it made some ship look cute.

What's wrong with that though? A vast majority of shipping is non-canon ships so the only way to portray those ships is in a way that makes them work.

If you don't like the ship, why are you reading the fic? Let alone reading the comments to facepalm?

In case I wasn't clear enough: the facepalming happens when people take ANY pairing and twist their existing personalities to make them fit into some (usually insipid) idea of "proper romance". I like the pairings I like because I like their canon interactions and I'm interested in seeing how those dynamics play out in romantic relationships. Yet it happens that people take those pairings, and either obliterate everything that made their canon relationship unique, or turn that canon relationship into something completely different seemingly only because that's the kind of romance they personally prefer. And sure, they're within every right to do so, but I've wasted some hours of my life on reading otherwise well-written fic that eventually turns out to be about characters sharing the names and lives of those in canon, but who act nothing at all like them.

Same. One of the fics in my currently main fandom that is labeled as "must read" is the most OOC thing I've ever read. My guess is that it's popular because of the kinky stuff.
