as far as I heard the original producer/creative mind was fired after the fifth season and came back for this mini series.

I'm not sure where you heard that, but it is incorrect. Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband were there for six years and then left because they didn't like the terms they were offered. Here is an Entertainment Weekly article from when it happened. Here is an interview with them again confirming it and going into some of the things they did in the sixth season that I hated. Particularly Ausiello's comments regarding April and where they left the show at the end of the season. And, yes, now they are back. To fix the "wrongs" of the seventh season. Which wasn't perfect, but was a hell of a lot better than the sixth season, imo. At least Lorelai and Luke weren't pod people who seemed to have forgotten everything about their characters.
