The reason they're into webcomics is because they can't afford to publish, and no company would print for them. It's easier to publish on the Internet, plus it has wider reach.

They're facing problems too, such as copyright infringement, but they still do it.

There are webcomics that aren't fancomics.

Others steal those webcomics for themselves.

You're talking about one alleged incident. That hardly speaks for the 'reasoning' of webcomics at large.

About the infringement, maybe.

But the cost of print publishing and the wider audience reach? Perhaps it depends on the context where the creator was from, no?
