28. Spike is an absolutely amazing character in an absolutely amazing series. It's hard not to fangirl him. :)

THE TEAL DEER, I KNOW:

31. See, I normally prefer series like Bokurano (more realistic style, more original story, seinen and all that--my favorite manga of all time is 20th Century Boys), but in this case, I honestly just feel TTGL is better-told than Bokurano. I adore Bokurano, don't get me wrong, but for some reason it just didn't grip me like Gurren Lagann did. Granted, I've only seen the anime and I've heard the manga is much better (I don't doubt this, either), but, while Bokurano is definitely my type of thing and TTGL isn't really, I felt like Bokurano just didn't live up to my expectations.

I was frustrated with the end of the Bokurano anime series and I basically thought the series went downhill after the amazing that was episode thirteen. TTGL may have been clichéd and ridiculous and sometimes downright silly, but I felt that what it did with those stereotypes was meaningful. Not new, not original, but meaningful nonetheless. Not that Bokurano isn't meaningful, because it certainly is, but I feel what TTGL had to say was more applicable in my life and it...actually made me care. I had heard those types of messages a thousand times in shounen anime, but TTGL made me actually listen to them, and actually want to live up to them. Bokurano just...kind of made me sad and ineffectual, I guess? Sad anime tend to be my favorites generally, but Bokurano just didn't seem to have much to it in the way of actual meaning I could take away from it. It didn't make me view the world or myself differently than I did before seeing it. TTGL did.

Anyway, it's almost 4 AM so I don't even know what I'm getting at exactly. I guess that I simply preferred TTGL for reasons unrelated to art style, and that, while I enjoy Bokurano a lot, I just couldn't bring myself to care about it as much as I do TTGL.I still have the Bokurano manga to read, though, and I suspect I may have more respect for Bokurano when I get to reading it.

They're both great series, though, and I almost feel that this is an exercise in futility because the two series are so utterly different in tone and style that comparing them doesn't feel quite right to me. They both have things that work in their favor and things that aren't so great about them, so I guess we should just leave it at that. :P [/endless, pointless, random rambling caused by sleepiness]

Lol... I hated the anime... so yeah... I guess I wouldn't be a good judge.

I accidentally clicked post haha so that didn't work that well because you can't delete annon comments. Oh well.

But I suppose at least from the manga standpoint, I came off a bit opposite of you, feeling a bit enlightened and touched during certain moments. A lot of the characters stories were told differently, which irked me about the anime (also the Director of the Anime said he hated the series, so there was a different dynamic) but I gained similar receptive hopefulness from certain stories from the manga, Kirie's, Moji's and Kaji's in particular (the manga still hasn't ended)

I guess my difficulty with TTGL was that it had potential in certain areas, but I felt the were played down far too much. I started to really appreciate the show during the timeskip with Rossieu imprisoning Simon... the entire dynamic of that portion was lovely, but I guess I couldn't grab hold of the other characters. They didn't feel human to me, they felt 'anime'. Most of it became predictable to me, and enemies were still left as enemies. I feel that even though Bokurano has predictable tendencies it still manages to provoke something from me, a feeling I can appreciate. But to each his own. I'm not going to bludgeon anyone for liking it, but I suppose my secret could've come off that way =).

So I've found out--I just finished the series last night and WAHHHHH! But it's so brilliant, still. Thanks for your comment!
