(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 12:19 am (UTC)(link)What I'm saying is that jokes like this are exactly the fucking reason why romance and feelings are socially marked as not having anything to do with men, and that this is stupid and wrong.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 12:33 am (UTC)(link)I'm really sorry if I'm being a dumb ass here, but seriously, what else do those jokes and all the attached narratives mean, if not that?
Re: Romantic things for men
(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 04:38 am (UTC)(link)To be fair, OP did report that her BF wasn't particularly interested in expressions of romance and emotion. She asked him directly and "he basically just shrugged". The fact that he didn't get her squat for Valentine's Day also supports the theory that he's not a poor oppressed soul dying to be able to express himself romantically if only society would allow it.
So maybe he is the type of guy who might enjoy steak and a blowjob?
Re: Romantic things for men
(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 04:50 am (UTC)(link)He could be. He could equally likely be a guy who's been told romance = flowers = frilly = for girls all his life and have no idea what to do besides the rote flowers and chocolate which can easily appear meaningless or superficial and not worth the time.
I know guys who would say steak and a blowjob would be their choice. Most of them are guys who either complain the romance has died or can't think of anything better, not guys that have entertained other ideas and decided they don't want any of them because being tossed a steak is superior. If you asked a guy what would be romantic to them, most of them say nothing because they don't know. It's not an idea they're expected to entertain.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)Like, it's one thing to say that steak and sex are good. It's another thing to say that Valentines Day is for women and Steak and Blowjob Day is the equivalent for men.
