I don't want to write the fic my partner requested for this exchange. I absolutely will write it, and I'll put my heart into making it good, but I may have actually groaned aloud when I saw the prompt.

Without going into identifiable detail, it's a classic 'I ship these characters whose canon dynamic is really messed up (and squicks a really big chunk of the fandom), but I'm gonna ignore the messed-up part' thing.

:( To each his own, but it seems kinda gross of them to request that in a fic exchange, esp if the terms of the exchange don't allow for prompts like that to get matched up with writers who've said they're willing to write it. Like, surely you like something else that's not controversial in the fandom?

Yeah, that's the bit that bugged me the most, the lack of other options offered. Other things are making me think this person is just new to swaps and doesn't understand the etiquette, though, so I'm not going to raise too much of a fuss.

Huh. I've never seen a fandom-wide fic exchange that didn't let participants mention deal-breakers participants don't want to write or read. I'm sorry. It's nice of you not to half-ass it, though. I can usually see what shippers see in their ships even if I don't ship them myself, but I do have one or two ships where if I was asked to write positive shipfic for them I'd have to bow out, unless I lied to myself and picked a fictional couple that was similar enough in dynamic without the cringe-inducing aspect, wrote the fic with them in mind, and then find-replaced their names and identifying characteristics. Good luck, may it be relatively painless.
