politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For wrangling all the political talk under one roof.

Oh yay, our daily echo chamber! I can't wait!

Re: politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-03 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's usually either empty, or arguing with one of the one or two Trump posters, but neither of those is technically an echo chamber.

Also like come the fuck on of course people are going to want to talk about this stuff what do you expect

If you don't want to participate, collapse it and ignore it, but no need to be a fucking asshole.

I've seen this card going around comparing Trump, Clinton and Gary Johnson across a variety of positions, and encouraging Bernie supporters to vote Johnson. And I just don't get it?

You hate Hillary that much that you'd pick someone who doesn't care about the environment, doesn't care about poor people having health care, doesn't support mandatory vaccinations or any kind of gun regulation? But he's got no beef with pot, gay marriage or a woman's right to choose, so that's just the same right?

It's funny. In 2008 I seem to remember feeling like a lot of people hated Obama more than they loved the country, and now I'm seeing it again only from the opposite side.

This is also how I feel about the Bernie supporters who are now supporting Jill Stine. I dislike her more than I dislike Hillary.

And really, Trump is so terrifying and would be so awful a president that I can't justify voting for anyone but Hillary even though she's way too moderate for my tastes.

Congrats, this covers the "Bernie bros all just hate Hillary" portion.

That doesn't seem obviously wrong when talking specifically about people who supported Bernie and are now switching to Johnson. There really is not a ton of ideological contiguousness there. You're putting it in more inflammatory terms than OP did.

I don't get it, either. Bernouts don't sabotage Hillary by voting for Johnson, they sabotage TRUMP by voting for Johnson.

Obamacare was a giant fucking mistake that cost my family big time. I want it gone. I would prefer to see it gone by implementation of single payer, but I trust a conservative government to eliminate Obamacare more than I trust Hillary to fix it.

May I ask how Obamacare hurt your family?

The only insurance we can afford covers jack-all.

Re: politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-04 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
What did you do for insurance before?

Let me guess: You[re one of those families who makes too much for subsidies but not enough to get good insurance. Are you perhaps in a state that didn't take federal dollars to expand medicaid and help close that gap?

But, like, seriously, though, Trump has yelled at a baby for crying, continued to argue with the parents of a war hero, and also has - reportedly - expressed a willingness to consider the use of nuclear weapons. He and his surrogates have also started to talk about the election being rigged. Still 100 days out and they're already trying to question the validity of the election and lay the groundwork for challenging the legitimate succession of power before we know what's even happened.

I am so so enormously terrified, at this point. Challenging the orderly succession of power and misting the use of nuclear weapons are really, really dangerous things. These are really bad lines to cross and he's shown no compunction about crossing them. And that attitude has the endorsement of a major party.

And here's our daily "I'm so terrified!"

Can you blame them for challenging the validity of the election after what happened with the DNC? You really think it's just the primary that the Democrats rigged?

Re: politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-04 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
The primary wasn't rigged. The general election won't be either. And even if it was, I mean, Jesus, let the evil be sufficient unto the day. It is AUGUST. You don't need to start laying the groundwork now for this, unless you're planning to flip the table regardless of what happens.

Re: politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
The primary was, in fact, rigged. When you tell lies, you don't help your position at all.

Dumb idea of the day: How can we combine babygate with Trump's baby heckling incident?

How much longer until Americans actually get to vote?

Re: politics thread

(Anonymous) 2016-08-04 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
Until November, but the noise level always cranks up to eleven the last few months, so the obnoxiousness will be more palpable than ever.

November 4th. So close, yet so far.
