When you implied employers having the right to discontinue employing you if you posted racist stuff all over your Facebook was somehow wrong?

If a job is not owed to you, can you explain why that is wrong in your view?

Again, if you only want to work for employers who do not care *at all* about what you do off-hours, you're going to need a lot of luck. There are plenty of unspoken rules that employees follow even if they aren't in their contracts. Such as: do not trash talk your own business in public. Do not trash talk your boss in public. Do not randomly spew hate speech in public or say you hate dealing with certain customers where they might find and read it.

Note the repeated use of "in public" in the above paragraph. If you're going to do those things, the idea is to at least have the sense to hide.

Would you call that "policing"? Because those are all common ones people get fired for doing in their "private time" and pretty much understood by every employee ever. If you can't handle even that, realistically... good luck with your self-employment gig.

Because I do not want what I say in my off-time policed by my employer. And yes, I call it "policing" when the punishment for an unwritten rule is termination, though I can see where that's a bad choice of words since the rule is unwritten. So maybe my real issue here is that I wouldn't want to work for an employer with unwritten rules and arbitrary termination policies.

That doesn't mean I think any of this is ~wrong~. I completely agree with you that no one owes anyone a job and that private businesses should operate as they see fit.

No. I don't use Facebook because of their policy of arbitrarily removing content.

But I'm also no longer sure what constitutes "racism." In the current outrage culture, people have had their lives ruined for much less than white power memes. There are some topics we can't discuss rationally anymore at all without the R word getting thrown around, and that's a problem.

good luck finding a job, then, because unless you have a contract, most employers operate on an "at-will" basis and can fire you at any time for any reason they want.
