Deleting Captions

I have a tumblr question for everyone: What is the big deal about deleting captions before reblogging someone's tumblr post? I don't see why that matters as long as you leave the source alone.

it might remove some context about the image, especially if it's somene's art. Even if it's just a caption, I think it's more respectful just to leave it there for the most part.
if it's a silly comment on a random internet image i'll delete it, but not if it's something someone put effort in.

No clue why it is a such a bit deal. Especially when people put long ass paragraphs of shit no one wants to read about it.

Exactly! Most of the time, I think, the captions that are paragraphs long or riddled with errors, typos, and/or emojis detract from the image(s). Or like it'll be a picture of Chris Evans and the caption says "Christ Evans." There is no reason for that to be there, if you ask me.

? Do you mean like the text that goes under photos on the full view? I'm assuming because it's part of the original post and most people want them taken in the entirety.

if you're meaning other reblogger's content...i delete that shit all the time, i dont always want someone else's comments.

I'm talking about both.

Well, artists get annoyed when people delete comments from their art, cause often it includes the context for their art as well as possible contact info and just in general consider it to be attempting to lowkey remove the artist name from the work (also since their are plenty of blog themes that don't show captions anyway its unnecessary)

for rebloggers commentary: no one really cares if you delete that or not (or if they do their just being obnoxious)

imagine being in a art gallery. you use the pictures by looking at them, but you hate the labels, so you tear them off.

aka, it's disrespectful to use their material, but not respect the minimal context in which it is presented. especially because most artist's comments are discreet because they know it puts people off otherwise.

if it's a piece of artwork, it's polite to leave the artist's caption--particularly as it links the art directly to them, but also because the caption is part of the artwork! If it's something else--other people's comments, for instance--that's different.

Ok. I'm and artist. If I post something along the lines of "lol, just an idea, had to get it out," it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the caption was deleted, so long as the image isn't a repost.

However, if I put a lot of info into it, like who the character is, where they come from, what their profession is, etc, then yes, I'm gonna be right pissed if someone deletes the caption/commentary.

People who get up in arms about others deleting what is essentially brain barfs of non-info, they can honestly get over it. But that's only my opinion.
