You may not know about alternate worlds, but you DO know there's a monster of some kind that may have killed two kids and is strong enough to drag a deer carcass away lightning fast. I think that's a very compelling reason not to climb into any hollow tree trunks. Shit, I wouldn't do that in THIS world because bears/snakes/bugs. I sure as shit wouldn't do it without alerting the person I was with to what I had planned in case something went wrong.
