Yes, but the media we consume influences and shapes how we think about the world.

You see, if too many teenaged girls write about the man who takes it up the ass being effeminate and submissive, it might influence the gay community in such a way that they internalize these stereotypes, start referring to themselves as "tops" or "bottoms," and produce live action pornography which more or less replaces it with "submissive teen twinks" being dominated by "big hairy daddies" and not the other way around.

After all, there's a strong correlation between the rise of romantic cartoons drawn for the consumption of straight adolescent girls in Japan and adult gay males in the West posting "no fems, no fats, no asians" on their Grindr profiles.
