I don't even know if it's that they can't afford her. I don't think Gwenyth wants to come back.

Yes, this, I'd rather not have her or Natalie Portman show up for an obligatory cameo when they have no interest. I imagine that whenever Downey decides he's really done with the franchise, they'll have her come back long enough for them to ride into the sunset together but I don't need her to be there just to be there.

Now, Hope van Dyne should have been in the movie, but that's another issue.

If that's the case, it's very foolish of her. It's not like she has a whole lot going on in terms of an acting career.

idk if I'd call it foolish necessarily. she has a shit ton of money, so it's not like she'll starve if she leaves the role permanently.

Even if she doesn't need the money, it's still not great for one's career to not have any major acting roles for long periods of time. Especially at her age, where roles for women get scarcer and scarcer.

She isn't under contract anymore, so this means they have to pay her a lot, and they're not always willing to do that for a cameo. She has said she loves working with RDJ and will do it any time. So she definitely has interest, at least in working with RDJ if not the whole franchise, but she's costly.

Not true. She's repeatedly said she wants to come back, but she was never asked back for either Age of Ultron or Civil War. However, the Russo brothers have talked to her about Avengers: Infinity War, and she has said more recently that she is going to be working on a film in 2017, so make of that what you will.
