You may have already ruled this out, but could it be gout?

We're pretty sure it's not gout.

The weird thing is this is nearly annual -- other than a few off-season incidents, it's almost always late July/early August that it flares up. My foot hurts pretty much constantly though I can walk on it most of the time -- but times like this, the only thing I can do is lay in bed slowly dying inside waiting for my foot to stop trying to chew itself off my leg.

da

I have gout (I was 20 when I first got it and the doctor didn't take me seriously) and it's triggered by peas, asparagus, beer, and too much fish... it can be triggered by pretty much anything, but these are my kryptonite
others claim chicken is the worst but I don't react to chicken at all

the pain is crushing... it feels like I've been kicking my foot against the wall + a burning sensation, even though nothing is physically wrong with it

this may sound weird, but try it?
rinse potatoes to get rid of the dirt but don't peel them, then boil them in the water for 10min
and then drink the water (don't worry, the germs die in boiled water and all the good stuff comes out) and wait
if the pain lessens even a little or goes completely away, you have gout
