1. AHAHAHA THAT PICTURE A+++

15. ...That is actually a really good idea. |D

41. Me too, sadly enough. Somehow, most of my favourite characters are male, and with my favourite girl characters, I just don't want to mess them up. Weird, that.

48. ...Dead horse, etc etc

52. I think they're cute, they just don't interest me. But... "pawn"? I can understand "pown", but... "pawn"? WAT.

55. Yeaaaah, English doesn't have the same distinctions, and it's odd to attempt to translate it because of different social speech patterns. Whenever I see no honorifics, I think they're lazy or too afraid to be seen as 'weeaboo'.

Not that I don't disagree with the original secret, but... can't we accept both alternatives (leaving the honorifics in and translating/removing them) as valid translation choices? Translation is far from a precise science, and a lot of it comes down to personal preference, so it's hard to say sometimes what's "wrong" or "lazy." I actually do both, myself, depending on whether what I'm translating is set in Japan or not.

- not the OP obviously

Translation seems stilted at best. For instance, '-sama' would translate very roughly to 'mr', which is only appropriate in certain situations. Removing them completely ignores the importance the Japanese, and thus the setting and relationships between two characters as intended, are ignored or forgotten. Even if the setting is not Japan, it does define the relationship between people in a different way that English honourifics does. It is silly at best, and removes something that the creator intended simply because it looks 'weird', or 'weeaboo'.

Of course, it is always an alternative. I just don't think it's the favourable one by far.

Well, you do have a point -- that's why I prefer to do it for series set in Japan (or a Japan-like world). I just think it's silly to have people in, say, Italy calling each other -san and -chan and so forth in an English translation. But we can agree to disagree on this point, if you prefer.
