Re: Lock the gate! The bad neighbors thread

That is the stuff that bothers me the most. This is the first house I've ever owned and I'm still bursting with homeowner pride. Intellectually I'm aware that not everyone feels that way, or it wears off or other things become more important or whatever, but that doesn't stop me from getting all huffy when my neighbor across the street lets the weeds take over or the neighbor down the road puts some trash in the bin without a bag so it gets blown all over the street and ends up in my yard.

The letting trash blow into your yard us obnoxious but I'll admit it has always ribbed me the wrong way when people get anal about other people's lawns being mowed or weedy.

Because the grass and weeds go to seed and spread throughout the neighborhood. It means more work to maintain the yard and can contribute to lowering the property value.

Fair about weeds spreading but grass spreading? How would that be a problem even if it's a thing?

It can also be a health hazard, as it can attract rodents and insects depending on how high the grass/weeds are.

I haven't heard of that...don't rodents and insects pretty much live everywhere anyway? Which ones are health hazards except mosquitoes (which are propagated by standing water, not grass)? Of course it might depend on where you live...

I mean, sort of? But it's really easy for them to live in long/tall grass that's not cared for, because it lets them hide from predators.

I'm talking mice/rats, both of which are vectors for disease.

It can also hide underground wasp/hornet (? not sure which one lives underground) nests, among other things.
