I don't think it matters. This is a TV series. The series will be different a hundred ways from the book, it can't help it. The lines you quoted won't be there, but the essence of Shadow will be. The trailer looks amazing; I'm really looking forward to it.

Not the OP here. It mattered enough for the OP to state it for the record, and it reads like that was a fact of the character with which the OP identified. So for that, it does matter. It's generated one of the most interesting discussions of race that I've seen in a long time, and as a reader I am thankful of that!

Plus OP never disparages Whittle's acting ability. He'll probably be exceedingly lovely in the adaptation.
