It's uncreative or something.

But in all honest it's because it isn't generically cute like a puppy.

But that doesn't make any sense. Most of them are generically cute like a puppy, it's just a puppy face on an object. Did people have problems with Geodude too? What started this?

Probably vocally around gen 5. People don't seem to realise that the whole 'uncreative' thing doesn't entirely fly, given in gen 1 there was a poisonous slime Pokemon, that was just a purple sludge, a purple blob that could copy others, a pokèball, a reversed colour pokèball, a magnet......

I wonder if some of it was motivated by the fact that in Gen V, you can't catch non-Gen-V Pokémon until the post-game, and Gen V is the largest gen since Gen I. I suspect some people thought it was deviating too much and were upset they didn't get to use their faves right away.

Personally, I thought it was really cool and so far it is my favorite gen.
