I have limited tolerance for lazy storytelling, and I felt TFA was exactly that. But then, they had a tough job following the mostly-disliked prequels.

I think the proof will be in the next film.

I agree. And while I really did like the nods towards ANH in TFA, I hope Episode VIII takes it in a new direction.
