Well, "canon" is bullshit also because it requires treating fiction of all things using much of the same stupidity that fundamentalists approach scripture. There's no real character to have an unchangeable trait. It's all interpretation.

If canon is also bullshit then why does publication make a difference as you and others claimed above? How does that even follow? I kinda feel like you're moving goalposts and saying "well none of it really matters because fiction isn't real"

Respect for published work does not depend on the brainless notion that there must exist a single authoritative interpretation of fictional characters as real.

I think @diet_poison is referring to events or facts that the creator says have occurred (this character is black), rather than interpretations thereof (this story is not racist)?
