I think the secret is worded in an assholish way. And, after all, obviously stereotypes exist for a reason.

That being said, I think we always pick the parts of a beloved character we associate with ourselves (and sort of ignore the ones we don't).

I can see how the same character who is read as gay by gay women,might be read as a straight tomboy by women who are, well, straight tomboys. As there will inavitably be an overlap.

Obviously there is such a thing as subtext. In some cases the subtext is pretty damn heavy. And it's obviously normal people will speculate or have headcanons. (Personally, I love analyzing characters an speculating) - but, I also o think that unless you make it more explicit (in text, or in visuals), it's fair game if people are reading the character differently.
