Oh no, that is so stressful and disappointing! But rest assured that in this case there was nothing you can do, and you should be showing the new company that you respect the place you work for and can't blow off work. In fact, I think that's the best thing you can do in an interview - show how seriously you respect your work and current company. I hate to say it, but if the company isn't able to get back to you for a clearly legitimate reason, and can't be flexible, then it's probably not a great company to work for. Unorganized and inflexible.

Still, that's hard. :( Best of luck in your job search.
