That is the wooooorst. I have a new boss who has been doing that to me about something almost every day, and I don't know how to react politely other than going, "Oh, okay, sure," when inside I'm like, "Not only have I been in this job for four years and can do everything in my sleep, but what you just explained to me is something a ten-year-old could figure out and you also explained it to me like I was a ten-year-old, sweet voice and all."

On the one hand, I'm kinda offended (does she think I'm a complete moron?!?), but I've seen her do it to other people, so I think that's just the way she is?

Situations like this always remind me of the Kids in the Hall sketch about the guy who has a speech impediment that make him sound sarcastic. :/

Ugh, with a boss it is 10x worse!!!! I'm sorry. :( I don't handle that kind of shit well at all. You seem to be doing a much better job than I would.

And at least it's apparently not personal, which would make it actually even worse. But it does sound like she has bad managing skills. Did she get hired in, or promoted up? Or is this a new job for you? (Someone recently said they were looking for a new job but I don't remember if it was you! Sorry!)

She is a temporary hire to replace my "old" boss, who was out on medical leave last year (and actually passed away last Wednesday, RIP). But what makes this tricky is that she actually had my current job before she left to move to another state (and then returned last year). So she knows exactly what my job entails and how she thinks it should be done, because she used to do it herself.

She doesn't seem like she's trying to be condescending on purpose -- she just seems like one of those people who have a very rigid way of thinking and can't gauge the way she comes across to others.

I was very entertained by the way you explained this last night lol.

Sorry to hear about your old boss! I mean I don't know if you liked her but still, that is sad. :(

Thanks (for both things). She was a complicated person to work with, but she meant well and always tried to make people laugh and be happy, so her presence will be missed.

Smile warmly and say, "Thanks [boss], I got this."
