Re: What's the one ship you genuinely judge people for?

Really? Sam being black is the only difference you see between Steve/Bucky and Steve/Sam?

AYRT

No, his relationship with Steve is also blatantly coded as romantic whereas Bucky and Steve's is aggressively coded as male friendship. But know Marvel fandom, it's the black thing that explains the discrepancy.

Well that sounds about as delusional as some of the horrible Stucky people I've encountered so congrats.

Really? I saw Steve and Sam "coded as friendship" while Steve and Bucky "coded as romance". I mean, Steve almost died for Bucky like four times. They make declarations of eternal love towards each other. They fight together as if they were one person.

Meanwhile, Steve and Sam are like two close friends. They support each other because they both understand what it is like to lose the person they are closest too.

But that could be because coding is completely subjective. For the record, I ship both Stucky and Sam/Steve.

Uh, that's not the only difference. Sam is a relatively new friend for Steve. Bucky is his oldest and closest friend. That, to me, is the big reason why I ship it. I like relationships with history. I like the idea of Sam/Steve, but I don't actively ship it because it doesn't have as many of the things I'm drawn to in ships.

Also, Steve and Bucky have that built in angst.

That too. Angst with a happy ending is my thing. Or just angst by itself.

Yeah, this is me. It's the combination of shared history and the angst factors that make me like Steve/Bucky so much. I like Sam, and a good author could probably wrote them in a way that I'd like - it's not like there's no tension to be had, and they have a good dynamic. I mean you could even have the whole dreams with Bucky be a source of tension. But the ship is less obviously my thing.

You must be a transplant from the SPN fandom. I'd recognize that level of delusion anywhere!

Uh, what movies did you watch where Sam's Advice Friend scenes are coded as romance but Bucky's endless parade of action movie romance cliches was not? Granted Marvel tried to No Homo it up, but pretty much the entire world saw the chemistry and subtext between Cap and his 'boyfriend'.

Okay, but no.

Firstly, even in the comics, Stucky is coded queer as fuck. Even in relatively recent ones, like CA:White, Bucky is basically a damsel in distress who ends up in bondage no less an needs to be rescued.

In the recent Thunderbolts Bucky looks weepily at a phone where he missed a call from Steve, asking WWSD?

Even Brubaker says that interpretation is acceptable, ffs.

Obviously, it CAN be seen as a friendship, as its not canon, but people have argued its ambiguity for decades.

But honestly, if you see it as racism that people prefer a ship between two people who have loved each other since youth, have been separated for 70 years and get reunited, and are pretty much each other's only link to a world that is now gone - over a ship with a guy who basically just showed (sure he's lovely, but that's not the point) - then really, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm not even in the Marvel fandom, but even I know this is a pretty weak interpretation. It's two guys who've been close friends all their lives vs. two guys who have recently met and hit it off but who lack the history of the previous situation.
