MTFE. I was so disappointed. Seven gens, 14 (or 15 if you dont N) combined professors and team bosses, ONE woman. One. They have no problem making female gym leaders/E4/champions; why not a boss?

I love Plumeria and I wish she'd been the boss. :(

The show at least gave us J and Giovanni's mother (who they neglected to NAME). But it still doesn't make sense. Maybe because they know that any lady boss will be picked apart by the fandom and they could never avoid accusations of sexism no matter what they did with her.

Someone on Tumblr brought up that of Lysandre had been a woman, she would have been seen as HORRIBLY sexist, being emotional and obsessed with beauty. Even of nothing else at all was changed. And that's sad, because not only is it true, it also shows how badly entrenched in double standards people really are.

Yeah... :( I mean bringing in major female characters especially as villains is definitely bound to be wanky for the reasons you mentioned. But it has to happen, or else we'll never get past that. Plus I definitely think Pokémon fandom as a whole would be a little more receptive than some other fandoms but that might be my own experiences talking

Japanese game franchises aren't exactly known for pushing the boundaries of creativity... once they have a formula, it just keeps going and going and going...

(Anonymous) 2016-08-20 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
How would it disrupt the formula any more than a female champion or professor?

Yeah I know :(

Yeah, agreed, a female boss would be awesome.
It's been long enough.
