it's not that - I have a thimble, the left hand is fine. It's the cramping and the rapidly forming callous on my right forefinger from pulling the needle.

I have seen little silicone finger covers (not quite thimbles) that I assumed were for needlepoint and the like. Probably won't do much for the cramping, but they might be useful if it's going to be a long term hobby.

As for the cramping, more potassium and more fish or flax oil supplements might be useful.
