Yeah. As someone who has been waiting over a year at this point to get funding for a proper wheelchair, I feel bitter that this guy is complaining about living in a mansion and having personal staff. I'm not comparing our medical conditions at all, but his living situation compared to most people I know who require care... he's the 1% of our world. I feel like he needed to leave his mansion and get some perspective and a hobby or something.

I don't want to go the "OMG TEH PRIVILEEEEGE" route, obviously being paralyzed sucks no mater how rich you are.

But, in reality, he'd never have worries a lot of disabled people have - like: "Who will take care of me when my parents are gone?" or "Will my disability get acknowledged and will I be paid a living wage?" or "Will I be able to afford/apply for adjusted/assisted housing"? And these issues can be HUGE factors in making life factors, so yeah.

Yeah. It does suck. Obviously it's a huge change and there's definitely a grieving process for the life he thought he would have.

You nailed it with those worries. Just existing is expensive and scary. In my country, there are no affordable facilities for young people with higher care needs. We go to public nursing homes to sit and stare at walls all day if nobody wants us. That's what makes me think about assisted suicide, not my illness.

That's really awful, I hope you'll find other alternatives :/

With me it's mental illness, which is a tad different, but similarly I'm generally okay with being less-than-fuctional, but I fear ending up in a mental ward or as one of those homeless crazy people.

:(

Yeah. It's sad how many people are homeless due to mental illness and lack of support. I hope it doesn't come to that for either of us.

Thats why we all need to be political about it now. Everyone, not just those directly affected.
