Re: Probably-white characters you pictured as non-white

Not quite an answer, but I'm hoping other people will know the series to weigh in:

Is Gen from Megan Whalen Turner's Queen's Thief books supposed to be white, or not-white? (Age-old question, I know.) I definitely pictured him as not quite white, but not quite any specific race 15 year old white trash country men could have given a name to.

*white trash country me

That's a confusing typo and I'm sorry.

I'm not entirely sure what race anyone's meant to be, but I'm fairly sure that Eddis, Sounis and Attolia are fantasy/alternate history versions of Greek city states if they'd still existed into the Renaissance period as they had in Antiquity, with Mede as an alternate/fantasy version of Persia from the same period. Loosely, anyway. So I'd say most of the characters are probably meant to look loosely Mediterranean or Middle Eastern?

Makes sense to me. I always kind of thought Sounis was sort of Fantasty North Africa? But idk where I got that idea.

I'm not sure either. I had them all as Greek because they're all on the same landmass. I think I figured them for mix-and-match versions of Athens, Sparta and Thebes? Geographically it's a little off but politically it makes some sense.
