Like, Lance's antagonism is clearly rooted in insecurity, and is pretty understandable from that POV. Was he being a dick? Of course! But not in a way that is abusive, and not in a way that precludes them becoming true friends over time, because they both have things to learn... Lance not to be so jealous and small-minded, and Keith, to pay more attention to people and perhaps not be so hasty to write people off just because they aren't "useful" in some kind of concrete utilitarian way.
I obviously like Lance a lot, but it's not because I identify with him especially... if anything, I am a lot more like Keith (who I also enjoy very much!), because I was a classic Type A overachiever in high school and even somewhat into college, and came off as pretty smug and judgmental because there was a part of me that was thinking, deep-down, that my excellent grades made me somehow fundamentally a superior person. I never hid this as well as I thought I did, and people could sense this off of me, and ended up bullying me, which only fueled my sense of superiority because I allowed myself to buy into the fallacy that just because I was being bullied, I wasn't myself doing anything wrong... this didn't make me to blame for the bullying I experienced, but over time it did help to spur me to learn some true humility and not weigh someone's value based on their success in life and/or intellectual heft. People did end up being nicer to me too, when I learned that. It helped.
So, I kind of take umbrage to the whole concept that Keith did nothing wrong... he DID do something wrong, but what he did wrong just had nothing whatsoever to do with Lance.
