I used to use KMPlayer--but I find the newer version (I haven't touched it in over a year, so it could've changed back)sucks. Last time I did a vid (it was for work, but similar to a fanvid), I used VLC but that was a steeper, more complicated learning curve for me than KMPlayer was in terms of ripping clips. And I'm not someone easily stumped by most software.

For editing, as herpy said, the old version of WMM is much better than the newer one. And I did track it down a few years ago, but no such luck when I wanted to put it on my laptop. The last vid I made, I used Cyberlink Power Director 10--it was free and came with my laptop. I actually liked the cropping tool in this one better than WMM.
