Yeah, pretty much. There are some rare exceptions and it's admittedly a lot more likely now than in years past, but there's still a far less chance of a same gender pairing being made canon on a kid's show. Possibly a little more likely since it's a netflix show (maybe? idk) but still probably not going to happen

I thought a bigger issue was that the parent company still holds some creative control? I think I remember seeing something about how it's still Toei Animation's property and so there are more limits to what they can do with it than Korra had.

Toei has Sailor Moon (canon lesbians) and Precure (yuri subtext and some canon lesbian crushes too).

Schoolgirl lesbians are an exception because they're just practicing for men when they're older. Haruka and Michiru are an exception because of fantasy reincarnation destiny. Main male characters on a mostly male-targeted show being in a gay relationship are a different story.

Yeah, but that's lesbians. Lesbians are safe, and everyone likes seeing two pretty women together. No one except dirty fujos like seeing two guys getting all cuddly on each other because dudes are gross. What are you, gay?

Re Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi being the author (and she loved throwing lots of yuri subtext between the inner senshi too) and Ikuhara (who would later direct Utena and based Utena and Anthy's relationship on Haruka and Michiru) helped.

The writers kinda implied that there will be LGBT characters in a future, thought. And this show is from the same people who gave us canon Korra/Asami, so I have high hopes.Plus the Netflix thing, I doubt Netflix is opposed to LGBT content on their kids shows.
