I do wish they'd given Aerith more err development that made sense. Certain things in Crisis Core don't really fit what we saw in FF7, anyway. No explanation of why Aerith knows how to fight with a staff, for example. A lot was glossed over, and I kind of wish they'd given her more interaction with Zack that wasn't in flashback form.

She was still stubborn and pushy, though, enough to get Zack to do her bidding here and there (hence wagon and then fixation on building a bigger, better wagon), so-- I dunno what happened there. Um. Hm. I guess I'm not quite in agreement enough for a HELL YEAH, but I do agree XD;

I don't think there's anything wrong in liking the compilation stuff (or at least, parts of it); I'm not one of the "old" fans in the sense that I definitely didn't play the game in '97, and I knew SPOILER, Aeris dies! before I ever played. But seriously, if the people who hate the compilation stuff can't acknowledge how full of plotholes, how crappy, graphically, how non-consistent and irritating the original game IS, then I don't see how they could actually like anything FF7 anyway. I like the compilation stuff personally because I acknowledge that FF7 is TERRIBLE in a lot of ways, and still love it regardless of that; the new stuff is terrible in its OWN way, but I still enjoy it. (Though notably some parts of the compilation project I liked more than others, but uh. That's totally favoritism on my part XD;)

I'm not sure how the blond guy with the swirly cheeks doesn't conform to societal standards of beauty, but I think I see your point.

As for getting people to get over it and the bashing of it just because they don't like people whom they consider to be overweight, I don't really know what you can do about that. (Show them Hairspray? Only, Hairspray is about fetishizing overweightness so maybe notsomuch. : / )

A few people just bitch about compilation stuff just for the heck of it or because they enjoy calling themselves "true old-school FFVII fan".
I doubt if actually any of them has played any of the new games.

A lot of the bitching is because the new canon does affect what fandom produces. For example, it'd be easy to ignore Crisis Core and its silly Zack backstory if most Zack fans hadn't adopted said backstory...but, since they have, the "old school" fans are going to be exposed to it (unless they completely isolate themselves in smaller communities). It's just the way that these things go, but it sucks for people who don't like the new canon (for whatever reason. I think the glaring retcons/contradictions alone are a good enough justification), so they're going to bitch about it.

And I think that they have every right to that. I don't think that I've seen any bitching just for the sake of proving oneself "old school", either.

I have. All over the place. It's rampant in the circles I travel in and makes me remain quiet that I'm a compliation fan.
