Not all of those films are depressing...Le Placard isn't. (Then again, it's not really gay either.) But anyway, there are some happy gay themed films around, you just have to search a bit to get past the cliched miserable ones.

how about ponying up some titles, then? because anything I've seen has been so depressing I want to go into the bathroom and slit my wrists. sheesh.

Well, just looking at the secret, out of the ones I've seen, Beautiful Thing and Maurice both have happy endings (as does Le Placard but like I said, the point of that film is that the protagonist is pretending to be gay. It had got some nice things to say about tolerance though.)

Er, well...if you like camp Priscilla Queen of the Desert (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109045/), To Wong Foo... (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114682/) and But I'm a Cheerleader (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0179116/) all have cheery outcomes. Romantic comedy wise, Imagine Me and You (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421994/) and Jeffrey (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113464/) are nice. In and Out (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119360/) is pretty stupid, but it's fun. Transameria (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407265/) is good...Orlando (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107756/) if you like more arty stuff...Pedro Almodóvar (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000264/)'s films often have strong queer characters.
