What's your favorite thing you've written that you never finished?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Or that you never started, but had all planned out in your head?

I have about a fourth of a novella about Lazarus's sisters, Mary and Martha, written, and another 2/4 planned. I really should finish it.

Oh god there are so many. I think probably the one I most regret not finishing is an HP fic where Arthur polyjuices up and befriends Percy to see if he's betraying the family.

wow, that sounds really awesome. do you at least have the start somewhere?

No, I've gotten out of the habit of posting WIPs for this very reason. I do have quite a bit of it finished though. It's just really hard to go back to something when you KNOW you KNEW exactly how you wanted it to go -- right down to some of the wording -- and now you know you don't remember it just like you did.

Maybe I'll just buckle down and make that fic my next month's project, anyway, now that I know someone's interested.

Yeah, it's hard to re-do it. I'll still root for the fic though! At least you have changed as a writer.

I have a novel planned about an immigration lawyer who is attempting to help a person seek asylum (become a refugee) in the United States. The person insists that the thing they are running from is a supernatural entity or cult. Their home country is extremely superstitious. The story would basically be about trying to warp this culture to fit into American legal standards and ambiguity as to whether this supernatural entity actually exists.

I like the idea but I just haven't had the time to write it.

That sounds amazing!!! I love anything where the real world and the supernatural collide, but in a way that leaves it a little up in the air what the supernatural thing is, if it even exists, etc. Like a lot of early X-Files? I'd totally read your novel, anon.

A bunch of really silly genre-pastiche fanfic. Like trying to do a Proustian take on Remus Lupin or something like that. The problem is it'd actually need to be well executed to carry it off and that would take a lot of effort.

A Wolverine/Cyclops mpreg fic. It had a whole plot and everything. I don't even know why my brain dreamed it up, but I still think about it fondly every now and then.

I have 95% of a Planetary/Frozen crossover fic in which a young Elijah Snow fucks a middle-aged Elsa, but I don't feel like writing the ending and I don't think anyone would appreciate the subtle commentary on all those terrible Jack Frost/Elsa fics that were momentarily popular several years ago.

Two dudes somehow get stranded on an island and fall in love and then they're rescued and have to figure out how to make a relationship work in the "real world" with disapproving family/friends/coworkers/etc. I haven't written it because even I realize how completely ridiculous and dumb it sounds. :P

My Mairon fantasies fic. It is an ongoing project about the character in the pairing I see as more submissive being the one having the ideas he wants to try. I haven't worked on it in a while, though.

A Fic That Only Could Have Been Written in 2009: a Glee AU in which all the characters worked at a secret government demon hunting organization.

A Once Upon a Time future fic where Henry and Neal Charming get trapped in Neverland and Henry becomes the new Captain Hook while Neal becomes the new Peter Pan.

I've written their arrival and then jumped ahead a great many years to the point where Neal's been gallivanting around with the Lost Boys, refusing to grow up and being partially responsible for Henry losing his hand -- after which Henry finally embraces what they've both become -- a few slice-of-life pre-Neverland scenes in the Captain Swan+Henry household, and the arrival of everyone else in Neverland, somehow not aged because IDK, but that's about it.

I feel like I need an external plot beyond "Henry regains his faith in love and magic" and I don't know what that is yet. But it's been years, and honestly, it's probably not going anywhere but a folder full of unfinished stuff.

A Kingsman AU involving Merlin and an OFC with amnesia. It was only in my head, though, so no worries. :P

I've been working on three original stories for the past five years. I have like five pages of one story done, and a "chapter" (it's more like an outline for a comic really) of another done. I also drew a few panels of the third one (A comic as well), since I got my Drawing Mojo back.

Spoilers for Tales of the Abyss

(Anonymous) 2016-08-23 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
I had this slow-burn/political-intrigue longfic planned out and started, that sort of...idk, fizzled out on me? I think I psyched myself out because it was going to have a pairing featured in it that was *nonexistent* in the fandom, and I was afraid of the reaction.

It was an AU based on the premise of Asch and Luke both dying at Akzeriuth, and the rest of the prophecy on the Seventh Fonstone coming true-- the story beginning at the siege of Malkuth by Kimlascan forces, and Peony's death at their hands. It was going to revolve mostly around Jade (trying to come up with *some way* to keep Malkuth from crumbling, while absolutely *not dealing* with the death of his best friend) and Nephry, who Jade basically puts on the throne in Peony's stead through some clever forgeries (making it look as though Peony had married her in secret for this exact purpose).

I had *so much* planned for it, involving the rest of the cast and this big plot, but the said pairing I had in there was Jade/Nephry, and I was really worried about blowback over it. :(

I'd actually read that. I'm falling out of Tales fandom, but as a Jade fan, that sounds really interesting!

Thank you for saying so! I'd love to get my motivation back for it, honestly. I still think about it a lot, and I think the Abyss-specific fandom has cooled off enough that even a basically unheard-of pairing like Jade/Nephry wouldn't get TOO torn apart. But it's hard to get started again, especially since I don't really have anyone left to bounce ideas off about it. :(

My best friend and I wrote a ~fantasy novel~ when we were around 12-13. We actually finished it and started writing a sequel. We never got very far with that one. Two years ago, we did a dramatic reading of both of the things and even though the first one was all kinds of cringey, it still was so very nostalgic and involuntarily hilarious. But the sequel actually was honestly funny. It was kinda great! And we were both very sad that we never continued writing it.

My House/Archer crossover fic.
