I've just started to save a little each month so I can eventually take a vacation to Hawaii. I've never been, and I really want to go.

I hope you get there. I went for the first time last year and practically had to be tied into the plane to go home.

I thought Hawa'ii was overrated. But that could just be because of the way I experienced it and the fact that I took a different tropical trip the same summer I went that I liked better. Also I got weirded out a bit by being in the middle of the ocean; it felt isolated...but some people like that feeling.

Definitely set aside a lot for food. It costs an arm and a leg to get decent food in Hawa'ii and eating mediocre/bad food can really but a damper on a vacation.

Which island do you want to go to? (I will say that there are some beautiful sites on Kaua'i, like Weimea Canyon; also snorkeling is awesome)

When I went, I went to Kauai. It was gorgeous, the food was amazing, and it wasn't as expensive or as crowded as going to one of the more crowded 'party' islands.

...really? I hated the food. It was almost all mediocre at best (except the fresh fruit which was of course amazing).

What kinds of things did you eat? Where did you go?

(Agreed about Kaua'i being a generally good experience based on being more laid back and less crowded.)

We went to this restaurant in Hanalei Bay, the fish tacos were amazing. I can't remember what it was called though.

We went to a luau too and I ate so much I don't think I ate at all the next day. XD

But yeah the fruit was fantastic. There was a farmer's market down the street from where we were staying and oh my god, the mangoes and shit. So fresh. *___*

I went to a luau and it was mediocre. I'm kinda sad now I didn't get to a better one! Yours must have been thrown by someone else.
