LOTR and The Hobbit are being released in a Collector's Edition for $800. No new features are being added, but you can get a fancy book and case for the discs (that you likely already bought).

Even as a Tolkien nerd, I would never pay that much with no new content to make it worth it. I already have all the extended editions. I don't really need a second copy that costs that much money.

Tolkien fandom seems to be in agreement with you. $800 is ridiculous and the only people likely to want this already bought the Extended Editions the first time around.

Yes. And I even have the LOTR extended bluerays, and they were still way less than this.
