As an erotic artist--yes and no.

It's not really how much effort put into it, it's more trying to find the perfect effortless way to do it. For instance, for buttholes, it's really hard to explain without a visual aide, but for closed buttholes there's a certain way of drawing the butthole as a single curved line with a smaller line or two branching off that makes it look nice, compact and erotic to me in a minimalist style.

I see that in doujin sometimes, but I don't think you're the kind of erotic artist I or OP are talking about if you're going for minimalist and OP is talking about plush, plump glazed donut buttholes which kind of require a certain level of color and detail. Well, that goes for coloured stuff too I would think. I'm pretty positive I know exactly the sort of butthole OP is talking about. It's pretty popular with some big name furry artists and anime-style artists. It's about giving the whole butt, including the hole itself, a sense of volume and...dare I say it, "cuteness" to it. As a bisexual dude I hate to say it but I've seen some dudes who have assholes that look like worn tire treads. (Gonna be honest and say I think it's because somedudes use huge anal toys, it's usually the ones I see who mainline XL Bad Dragon toys like crack. The ass definitely can get a worn out look.) It's not attractive. The sort that are overly tight and "knotted" looking like a balloon tie aren't that attractive either. The best are the ones that look soft and inviting. I've seen it in drawn porn and in real life.
