As the OP of that secret, I never said no one romanticised it, I just said it was annoying how everyone feels the need to clutch their pearls that people like that exist.

Most people believe some variety of stupid shit. There are people who believe Donna Nobel was too fat to be a companion to the Doctor. There are people who believe Game of Thrones has too little nudity and violence. There are people who believe Zutara was supposed to be endgame and the writers were forced to change it. There are people who believe they can get married to fictional characters.

Unless their belief in stupid shit is causing widespread harm or hurting me directly, I'm just not sure why I'm supposed to be outraged and personally offended about it?

First of all, there would seem to be good reason to believe that romanticizing abusive relationships could cause widespread harm.

Second, even if you don't want to get offended, that doesn't require you to clutch your pearls and go on the warpath when people point out that it is abusive. It doesn't require you to endlessly talk about how Tumblr is mean now and refuses to allow anyone to ship anything.

I think there's clearly a middle way here, where we can ship things that we like and also talk in a meta way about issues with characters and ships. But being aggro at people meta talking doesn't help anyone get to that place.
