I've not played through the DH start zone yet but I'm mostly interested to see how they've bullshitted Illidan back to life, but as far as the rest of the DH lore goes I am intrigued to see how it's done.

I'd rather she gets a decent storyline, or at least some involvement (other than the Harbingers short) similar to Yrel in WoD.

Love interest? Hm, I don't think that's as likely. Illy has been carrying the Tyrande torch for, what, 15,000 years now?

Sure, but sooner or later he'll have to admit to himself that she'll never love him and move on. He has just been brought back to life, so he isn't going to pull Snape anytime soon.

I always figured that her springing him to fight Archimonde (and slaying plenty of Maiev's Wardens (Sentinels?) to do so) gave Illidan false hope that she had regretted her choice of Malfurion == or at least that she saw and understood Illidan's true worth.

I'd have thought that everything she did and said to him after he turned into a demon would set the record straight. But then I remember that Illidan is a classic Nice Guy, so yeah, he totally would delude himself over any not-negative reaction he got from her.

Illidan's creepiness towards Tyrande is something that, for some reason Blizzard, and a large part of fandom, seem to find endearing, but I personally hate it and think his character would be vastly improved without it.

Though I'm one of those people that aren't exactly foaming at the mouth over him or the possibility that he could get a new love interest. *shrug*

Of course, he's like my...secondish fav. My fav just DIED, dammit.

I have a feeling we're in for MaievxIllidan.

It's suspicious that her character has been whitewashed to hell and back at the same time as his was. Normally you would expect they'd go with him avenging his "unjust" death at her hands, but he can't do this now that she's one of the good guys, without ruining his redemption arc. And Maiev is now suddenly ok with working with demon hunters for the sake of Azeroth, so it will be weird to not have them work together to defeat the legion, and even weirder to not have them meet at all.

(I would much rather see Kor'vas team up (non-romantically) with Kayn (or even Mr. "The Ends Don't Justify the Means" aka Altruis). ~ I really hope that forcing that choice in the starting area actually has ramifications later on.

Yeah, the lore jumped the shark after Wrath. I don't even understand what the fuck is going on anymore and the day Varian Wrynn talked Jaina Proudmoore out of committing genocide against orcs was the day I just stepped back to watch the perpetual trainwreck.

I was sorta excited about Illidan's return until *THE* book spoiler leaked. If I had read the book first I would have thrown it against the wall in frustration.

Right there with you. If it also sidelines certain characters who OUGHT to be in the role that was given to Illidan (being deliberately vague here), I will just stop altogether.

Uh...Jaina wanted him to dismantle Horde. As in, slaughter everyone in that room. How is that "talking her out of genocide?"

And if you mean Orgimmar, that was Thrall I believe.

Dismantle doesn't equal slaughter. It could also mean forbid the different horde races from forming millitary allience and incorporating some of them into the Allience, like what the real-world Allies did after defeating the Axis during WWII.

Except with the way she's been so hell bent and even blood thirsty? No, her dismantle meant to wipe them out.

Of course, if Blizzard would be CONSISTENT with her characterization and actually USE what she learned and stuff from War Crimes instead of ignoring it in favor of making her a warmonger...then this wouldn't be a problem.

I like Illidan, but a redemption storyline requires acknowledgment that a character did something that they must seek redemption from, not retconning everything and saying "see? he was in the right all along!". It's also curious how come the character who has previously been saying that he doens't care about the night elves and is only helping them because of Tyrande, is now suddenly claiming that everything he did in his life was to protect the whole of Azeroth.

Yeah. Bah. (Though it doesn't surprise me after their retcon of Kael to paint him as MooHaHa Evil all along.)

Asfriabi said outright that they don't care anymore about lore continuity. "We'll throw out old lore if we think of something cooler" was pretty much what he said at last year's Blizzcon, iirc.

They honestly haven't cared that much about Lore since Cata. They only "care" about lore when it suits them (like making Demon Hunters elf only. still salty at not being able to have a Draenei DH smh).

Oh God and I've played into beta and there are several important quests centered around him. I don't have a high opinion of him in the first place but it got noticeably worse after a few of them. If they actually are trying for a redemption arc, as a reader, a writer, and some time editor, they really are managing to absolutely miss all the major stops you need to redeem a character.

My only hope at this point is that they are going to do something like stuff all the Fel/Legion into him and then we have absolutely MURDER him.
