That's kind of what I was thinking tbh. No really strong opinions, since I haven't watched any of Twelve, but I am not a fan of age gaps like that so it's weird to me. But it seems like we regularly have secrets about people liking them together despite it being an ~unpopular opinion~ and I'm starting to wonder if it's actually unpopular

A few people on FS (assuming it's not all one anon submitting secrets) is hardly representative of fandom, though. You can't really gauge its popularity or unpopularity properly if this community is all you see of it.

*whispers* I though Twelve and River worked really well together in the Christmas special and I know half the fandom hates her, but I honestly wish she'd come back (YES AGAIN) for a few more episodes...

Also forever sad we never got a Jack/Doctor/River scene, because I've been wanting that for aaaages.

(Apparently I'm one of the few people who didn't care for Clara. I only really liked her when she was a Dalek and in that first Christmas special.)

I love TwelveRiver. I don't know if it's because they're shown as more... aged? Mature? than River in previous seasons/River with previous Doctors.

I didn't mind Clara. She's definitely not on my favourite companions list, but I don't overly dislike her like I do with later-seasons-Rose.

It's funny, cause I genuinely adore Clara and ship them fairly low-key, but I vastly prefer the opposite dynamic--the one where tiny, fierce Clara is the boss, and the Doctor is the more submissive/indulgent of the two. (Not really in a sexual way, cause I prefer the G-rated fluffy kisses, hand-holding, and flustered blushing version of them).

But I really like the scenes in both canon and fanwork where Clara gets bossy/demanding and Twelve is slightly intimidated by her and really impressed.

I also love Doctor/River, but I think I'm odd in that I can really only ship one pairing per Doctor and the other pairings are just meh...so Nine/Rose, Ten/Donna (Yes, I know we weren't supposed to ship it THAT way but I'm not very good at doing what I'm told), Eleven/River, and Twelve/Clara...so far.

I think I'll like Bill, but it's too early to tell.

I don't think that people who are squicked by 'a discrepancy in physical attractiveness' need to be taken seriously as a "fandom objection" (or taken seriously at all). Anyway, wasn't part of the whole point in Deep Breath that it wasn't actually his lack of 'physical attractiveness' that was putting Clara off?

I've never watched more than bits and pieces of Doctor Who, but if I was going to start, I always thought it would be 9/Rose or now 12/Clara that would pull me in. I'm not so much for the dubcon, but everything else in this secret--yep, guilty.

They're both extremely attractive, and the last two seasons have been major improvements in Clara's favor (I don't get the OTT hate unless we're talking about her time with Eleven - she got better and people need to give credit where credit is due), but I really can't ship them.
The whole point of Twelve is that this doctor, unlike Eleven, harbors only familial love for her. So it feels like parent-daughter incest to me. Plus now I kinda ship Clara and Ashildir/Me

But it's a more popular ship than you give it credit for. You do you.

I think they're both gorgeous, and their chemistry is off the charts. For me, whatever else happened onscreen, the sustaining and evolving theme, especially in season 9, was their love story - which, as Clara says more than once, was "impossible."

It was never going to end happily, and it was never going to be named - although I think that's what Clara says in the cloisters that the Doctor can't remember but knows was important. We don't get to see it, but for me it's what Clara means by, "People like me and you - we should say things to one another." Which was preceded by Clara telling the Doctor before she goes to face the raven: "Everything you’re about to say, I already know. Don’t do it now. We’ve already had enough bad timing."

The way they look at each other goes beyond any sort of father/daughter relationship, IMO - and they look at each other a lot.

As far as dynamics go, I side with the commenter who prefers Clara to push Twelve around sexually. Sure, he can look sinister, and he's got a very intense face, but he's also vulnerable and insanely devoted to her. Meanwhile she orders him around and calls him on his bullshit, teases him and flirts with him and gets angry with him. I think Clara would have to be the one to break through Twelve's defenses; he would never make the first move.

Anyway, thumbs up, OP. I ship 'em like FedEx, and I see absolutely no problem with it. But then, I've always enjoyed cross-gen ships.

When the secret mentioned the discrepancy in physical attractiveness, my immediate thought was "Clara's not THAT much less attractive."
