Not afraid?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Just wondering, when people list a bunch of traits that some character has, how do they decide which traits the character "isn't afraid" to have? Are they traits that you find unusual? Traits that most people would try to hide because people don't like them (that seems to make the most sense, but "cute" seems odd in this context since it's usually considered a positive thing. It would make sense with a trait usually considered negative)?

I mean, do you assume a person who isn't cute is just afraid to be?

It's not enough to talk about positive and negatives. Cuteness is mostly positive, but there's a perceived dissonance between cuteness and strength/power/ability to deliver hyperkicks. So I would assume that OP is saying that Cammy is cute and unsorted about that despite the tension with her surroundings and ambitions.

I was wondering that, too. It doesn't take much courage to be cute OR beautiful, IMO. Being visibly intelligent ruffles a lot more feathers, if you're a woman, whereas being cute/beautiful is something society says we're supposed to aspire to.

The thing is, people tend to think if you are cute/act cute, you're not intelligent or tough. That you'll go down like a wet piece of paper towel in any kind of struggle (physically or mentally). I may be way off the mark, but I think OP is saying that she's not afraid to be herself, even though it may make others think she is somehow "lesser" than she is.

It has to do with expectations of toughness and how people who are cute are assumed to not be tough or how people who are tough are assumed to not have a cute side.
