(Anonymous) 2016-08-25 09:32 am (UTC)(link)Fanservice is all nice and great but the second you move from the fanservice to stated fact, your game (or anime etc.) immediately risks getting put in a corner you would not want your business to be in. Because that's what it is, first and foremost: A business. And these businesses are immensely afraid to lose potential customers by saying outright "yep, the main character of our game and his ~best friend~ are totally gay" - because yes, there are a lot of people (even in the oh so open and tolerant west) who would not buy the game if it has icky gay people in the main cast. And even if not, it's still a very prevalent fear publishers have.
