I'm pretty sure that removing decaying food from between your teeth is probably good for you at least in terms of your breath. Also removing the source of bacteria from spaces where it's trapped is good for gum health, at least it was for me. My gums are way healthier (and I haven't had any more between-teeth cavities) since I started flossing daily.
