Lesbians aren't oppressing us, but they can be EXTREMELY nasty about our not being exclusively into ladies. I've been told that "you bi women wouldn't be viewed as such sluts if you were less slutty" by a lesbian who refused to believe that a) I had only had one sexual partner in my life and b) bi women in general aren't skanks faking attraction to women in order to get male approval. Obviously that woman was not a representation of lesbians as a whole, but she's far from the only one to take an attitude like that (or my special favorite, "bi women don't count as queer because they can date men and people will think they're straight")

Just this week I've seen "Headcanoning lesbian characters as bi is queer erasure" and "Lisa Simpson dating both men and women makes her a LESBIAN, not bi! And it's homophobic to say otherwise."

Not this week, but there's also the gross "I don't want to touch a vagina that's ever been touched by a penis." Because you know I thought that whole a woman's worth is in her vaginal purity junk was decades ago except for in kooky purity cults.

In fandom I have never heard the words lesbian erasure or lesbophobia about about characters who are actually lesbians. They're either not explicitly anything (which fans will call "lesbian coded" which is just a fancy, authoritative way to say it's their headcanon) or have canonically been interested in both men and women (which fans will get around by saying the interest in men isn't real, it's just compulsory heterosexuality).

Ugh, I saw this ALL THE TIME about korra after korra/asami was made canon and it drove me fucking crazy (especially since the creators themselves explicitly referred to korra as bisexual very shortly after the episode aired). Can't a bitch just be bisexual? Damn.

And if they must, the lesbian giving in to compulsory heterosexuality interpretation makes more sense for Asami than Korra. Asami's interest in Mako came off as lackluster at times, I noticed as early as the first airing of the first season, but Korra's was definitely real.

But no, the butch one must be the lesbian because that's what real lesbians are like and if you make her interested in men you just want backpats for "subverting" stereotypes that get subverted too much already, femme lesbians are too mainstream and appealing to straight men
