Wiki-walking is oddly fascinating. I spent an hour or so this evening going from maritime ghost stories to shipwrecks to various maritime disasters to the Halifax and Texas City Explosions to Sam and Rose Maceo and the Republic of Galveston Island. Basically I went from the Flying Dutchman to Prohibition-era gangsters by way of a couple of explosions that leveled significant sections of cities/towns, with stops along the way for the Goodwin Sands, the Lady Lovibond ghost ship, the sinking of the Empress of Ireland, the sinking of the Andrea Doria, the fire of the PS General Slocum, and capsizing of the SS Eastland, which is somewhere between infuriating, embarrassing and incredibly tragic (it was topheavy and basically rolled over in its moorings killing 800+ people), before winding up in the Balinese Room in Galveston in the 40s.

I have done absolutely nothing else at all today besides walk the dog, and yet I feel oddly accomplished.

I love doing stuff like that. There's so much fascinating stuff in the world to learn about.

I've lost quite a few afternoons and evenings to this kind of thing, though usually I don't lose most of a day. It's dangerously addictive, but so very fascinating.

Same here, I feel like I learn so much when I do that. I never regret learning anything, but sometimes I feel like I've wasted time.

By wiki walking, do you mean just browsing/reading thru Wikipedia?

More or less. "Wiki Walk" comes from TV Tropes:

Somehow, I always end up reading about aviation disasters.
