OP

I mean...you're right, but that's exactly what A/B/O is, it's a sex trope. It's full of ridiculous pseudo-biology and it's meant to hit very specific kinks, which is why I said I think I'm doing it all wrong. You can still write nuanced characters, but honestly, think about how relatively rare it is to find someone who writes regular slash fic with characters who switch (we just had a huge secret about this a couple days ago and pretty much everybody agreed, which surprised me as someone who hates how little there is of it, normally I see a backlash defending strict bedroom roles and yaoi tropes and that people who wish to see more switching are "whiny", even when they already write it themselves and just wish other people did too), and then think about what A/B/O is.

Is it really any surprise there's not a ton of this kind of fic out there? I'm essentially doing A/B/O all wrong, since the entire point of it is that omegas are super duper total bottoms by nature, and alphas are genetically hardwired to fuck things, both roles sometimes take it to the point where instinct cannot be overruled. (And of course you sometimes get the darker side of A/B/O from that with random alphas raping omegas, and omegas who can't help themselves even if they're sobbing and hating every second of fucking this random stranger or something.)

It's pretty obvious in A/B/O-land that the vast majority of ficcers write these instincts are more primal and animalistic, instead of regular old human desire and want, so I would argue that while there obviously would be people who go counter to biology, it would be even more of a taboo in A/B/O-land than it is here in the real world.

(I've seen some interesting things done with that too! I've got a whole worldbuilding thing set up because of that, and I've seen a Free! fic where Rin is an alpha who is into other alphas, and that's taboo. It's hinted at that he and Sousuke get together in that fic, and while I'm not a fan of the pairing at all, I found te way the fic handled it to be really fascinating, it was handled essentially like homosexuality is, except the "othering" lines occurred due to dynamic instead of gender.)
