Vent number one: FUCK DELL RIGHT IN THE FUCKING EAR

I sent my laptop in for repairs because the AC jack had come loose and it was no longer getting power, but other than that it was working fine. It's still under warranty, but the tech support guy warned me that there might be a charge, if there was they would let me go.

It takes them a week and a half to get back to me, and when they do, they say it's going to be $379 for a new motherboard, keyboard, and something that sounded like armrest. I called back and left a voicemail asking if they're sure that they have the right person, because other than not getting power, my laptop was working fine, why would I need a new motherboard or keyboard?

(Needless to say, I'm NOT spending $379 to fix a $299 laptop.)

Second issue, which is more just an annoyance. I called a refill into Kaiser for the pharmacy at the location near my work on Wednesday. Since it was a new medication, on the first round I'd been taking the 10 mg formula and gradually increasing the dose by taking more tablets each week. But now that I'd found a level that worked for me, they wanted to switch to that specific dosage.

Okay, fine. Except when the pharmacist changed the dose, she did it as a new prescription, and had if filled at the location where my pain doc is, so when I went in Friday morning to pick up the pills at my usual location, they said it was at that location.

Unfortunately, it's only open Monday-Friday, and by the time I would've gotten there after work, it would have been long since closed. So this morning (after having missed a dose) I had to drive to the 24-7 pharmacy and wait to get it filled.

The third is work-related. I have a supervisor who is really close to retirement and while she's good enough at most things if she's shown step-by-step how to do them, she sometimes has a little trouble figuring things out when they're not laid out in the guide.

Yesterday she came to ask me how to schedule a particular type of appointment. She couldn't figure it out, she was wondering if it was actually two separate types of appointments, etc.

But if she'd taken two minutes to look in the computer, there was an appointment type that exactly matched what she needed!

Assuming they didn't mix up your computer with someone else's, sending your computer to Dell might be like taking your car into the dealership to get a minor thing fixed and they tell you it will cost $2000 because they noticed some scratches in your paint job and they want to repaint your car. They want to fix everything that's even slightly imperfect.

Maybe they noticed some wear on your keyboard, but nothing that affects function. Maybe they like to replace motherboards as a matter of course even if they work fine. Ask for an explanation for WHY they want to replace these things and then just refuse those repairs if they don't give a really, really good reason. (Just make sure they still fix the actual problem.)
