I wasn't talking metaphorically about the pool. I was talking about the specific thing OP mentioned. And yeah, sometimes loneliness is a choice when you don't make the effort to include yourself in activities but rather sit around like a wet towel while everyone else has fun.

I think there are a lot of reasons why someone might sit around and not make the effort beyond just, like, "they're a wet towel". I guess. Is my point.
