I've gotten a few haircuts at the beauty school- $10-15 for a student or $20-25 for a more advanced student. The instructors have talked them through it, worked on it too.

You know your hair's impressive when the seasoned instructors say they have never seen short hair that thick.

I should look into that, because paying for the cost of a regular cut is just dopey when you hair's as short as mine is. It is thick as all fuck though, and it stands right up on end like Guile from Street Fighter if I don't gel it down.
